
2010 Connecting With Kids Leadership Award Winners
EDINA ROTARY CLUB and EDINA MORNINGSIDE ROTARY CLUB, for sponsoring, coordinating and leading Camp Enterprise, an annual business camp. For the past 30 years Camp Enterprise has hosted up to 100 high school seniors, including many from Edina. There they learn more about the business world and are inspired to take their place in it.

MICHAEL PRETASKY,
Dean of Students at Edina High School, for reaching out to all students, including those who are at risk of not graduating because of barriers to their education. Through the newly implemented Options program and its emphasis on personalized learning, Michael has kept many of these students engaged at the high school.

MARY SMITH,ESL teacher at Cornelia Elementary School, for her efforts to support her students without reference to the school calendar. Year round, Mary helps students and their families find solutions to transportation needs, cultural competence and language barriers.

PAMELA MILLS, Fairview Southdale Hospital Volunteer Services Manager, for coordinating a joint effort between hospital employees and their families and the resident of the Edina Care Center to assemble care packages for our troops on the Edina Day of Service. She clearly identified how business and the community can work together for the benefit of all.

JERRY'S ENTERPRISES, for their ongoing support of our youth and youth organizations in general and more specifically for their wide support of the Edina Day of Service. Jerry’s participated in the Edina Day of Service through publicity, volunteering and donating goods to other service projects.

DR. HAROLD HANSON, for combining his expertise in woodworking with his care of children and disabled young adults. He adapted woodworking projects so that younger hands could assemble them and taught them how to safely use their tools while modeling kindness and patience.

BOB GUBRUD, for his long-time volunteer service to Edina Public Schools. He helps in both Cornelia Elementary School and Edina High School with reading skills, homework help, life-skill planning and helps connect kids to the value of learning.

SOBER SQUAD, for promoting a positive alcohol, tobacco and other drug free lifestyle for themselves, other students and the community at large. They engaged their peers, younger students and families in conversation about the benefits of a substance-free life.
