2012 EDINA DAY OF SERVICE

Edina's first community-wide Day of Service involved more than 1300 volunteers working on the more than 130 projects, giving more than 5000 hours of their time! Volunteers plant trees, collect books, pick up litter along Highway 100, knit mittens and hats, collect coats and more. Community members submit projects for which they want volunteer help. Volunteers choose the projects on which they'd like to work.

In 2010, for the second year in a row we had over 1,000 people from the community volunteering on the “Day”, giving over 3000 hours of the their time. There were dozens of projects that we knew of.  Projects ranged from a 6th grader collecting grocery bags to donate to VEAP all the way to the Girl Scouts and Normandale Elementary families gathering, cleaning, sorting and then donating over 15,000 to the Hennepin County Medical Clinic system.  Driving around Edina that day, it was amazing to see the number of people working on service sites throughout the city.  Thanks to all who organized projects and to those who pitched in to help at each of them.  Without your help and enthusiasm the Day of Service could not be as successful as it is every year.

The 3rd Annual Edina Day of Service was a great success!  Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who gave of your time and talent to make Edina a better place to live.  We are a cleaner community due to the many clean-up projects of public spaces.  We are a warmer community because of the hats, mittens, and scarves donated.  We are a less hungry community because of the thousands of sandwiches made for homeless shelters and for the food drives held.  We are a closer community because we worked so hard to benefit our neighbors, friends and city.

We will start planning for the 4th Edina Day of Service soon!

THANK YOU!
